Pet Care and Repatriation Costs

In addition to the usual costs for food, toys and other pet accessories, pets need regular veterinary care. Your adopted pet also needs to be transported to your home country.

Ongoing Medical Care

Depending on the age of your adopted animal, you might need to plan for vaccinations and de-sexing surgery.

Vaccinations can cost 300 – 500 RMB
Spey / neuter can cost 400 – 800 RMB or more (without blood tests)

Treatment for unanticipated accidents and illness can cost an extra 1000 – 5000RMB or more depending on the treatment required. Responsible pet ownership means planning ahead for these hopefully avoidable expenses.

Animal Export

Depending on the animal import rules in your country, bringing a pet home with you can range from relatively easy and affordable to nearly impossible and prohibitively expensive.

Repatriation costs can run anywhere from $2000USD to $5000USD or more. Some of the costs can include:

  • A pre-departure health exam and rabies test
  • An animal export certificate
  • An airline approved pet carrier (for in-cabin use or for cargo)
  • Airline transportation
  • Quarantine in your home country
  • Pet relocation company fee
