Dear SCAA Community,

Spring has finally sprung! Of course with the relief of warmer days comes new litters of kittens looking for a safe and comfortable home, so be sure to visit our upcoming adoption days. This month, we’ll be giving second chances on both sides of the river with venues in both Puxi and Pudong. Hope to see you there!

Recently, we celebrated three years of animal rescue in Shanghai at our first ever ‘Animal Lovers Mixer’ and a great time was had by all! Be sure to stay tuned for more mixers later this spring. And calling all dog lovers out there! Moon River Diner and Bark’s dog day at the park is just one week away. Actually all animal lovers are welcome to take part in this very special day of frolicking to support SCAA!

As some of you may already know, I am stepping down as Executive Director of SCAA to pursue again my career in Internet Marketing. My tenure as ED has been a great experience helping so many animals and building a wonderful community of volunteers and supporters. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with you all. I am deeply grateful for your support and friendship. On that note, I am not going away. I will continue to maintain the website and provide IT services and support the SCAA team as much as possible. The Board of Directors is open for new talented and enthusiastic people. If you are interested, please contact director[at]scaashanghai.org

Kindest Regards,

Milton Menefee

My SCAA Donation

On February 24th I had my birthday party. I went to Johnny Moo's for a birthday lunch. We are the owners of Lottie (Cuddles) she is from SCAA.For my birthday I asked for no presents but if my friends wished they could donate to "Second Chance Animal Aid". They all donated and I got a total of 750 rmb.

I love my dog Lottie, she gives the whole family so much pleasure. I hope this donation can help other dogs or cats in Shanghai to be happy, like Lottie.

From,
Alexander Cebula

Thanks Alex!

SCAA’s Adorable Adult Cat

Moggy

Moggy
Moggy’s favorite napping place

Cat Stats

Name: Moggy
Age: 2 years
Personality: Relaxed and social with people at home but mean and intolerant of other cats.
Favorite hangouts: In a basket, on a pillow, or the laptop (if foster mom is trying to get some work done).
Health: Vaccinated and spayed.
Status: Single and looking for a good permanent home.
Ideal home: A quiet place where Moggy can be the center of attention.

Moggy’s Story

Moggy has been an SCAA foster cat for over 15 months, since Fall 2006. During that time, she has won the heart of many a foster parent but has been too stressed at Adoption Day to make a great impression with potential adopters.

A rescuer found Moggy wandering neighborhood streets and it was obvious at first glance that Moggy was soon to be a young mother. She had four kittens: Izzy, Ella, Lizzie and Lilly, shortly after being rescued. She was a great mom, socializing her ginger girls and nursing them until they were nice and strong and ready for adoption. It was at that point that Moggy had enough of motherhood and insisted her foster home go back to being a one-cat household. And so began Moggy’s quest to be the kitty center of her foster parents’ universe! Her kittens all quickly found good permanent homes, with Izzy set to emigrate to Spain in 2008. But Moggy is still looking for the right home. After 1.5 years, SCAA hopes the time is finally right.

Moggy

Moggy

Moggy and her nemesis – the laptop that steals attention from her!

A familiar Moggy pose

A keyboard lock function is a must around Moggy – she can get a bit jealous of the computer and insist on covering up the keys! She is a loyal cat who enjoys being around her foster parents, sleeping on the bed and greeting guests at the door. Someone must have forgotten to tell Moggy she’s a grown up cat, as she can be as active and playful as a young kitten, fascinated by anything that moves. A tip from foster parents – don’t leave your wedding ring on the nightstand.

Moggy

Moggy also enjoys her quiet time and is happy to go to her favorite napping spot when foster parents are too busy to lavish attention on her.

Because Adoption Day is so stressful for her, Moggy often stays home. SCAA would be happy to arrange a home visit for interested adopters. To learn more about Moggy, please contact SCAA Foster Care Director, Lee-Anne Armstrong at foster@scaashanghai.org

From Michael Garvey:

STRESS

I am not sure exactly how this works, but this is amazingly accurate.

The picture below has 2 identical dolphins in it.
It was used in a case study on stress levels at the Mayo Clinic and later at Fletcher Medical Center in Burlington .

Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water.
The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored, scientific study revealed that, in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress will find many differences between the two dolphins.

The more differences a person finds, the more stress that person is experiencing.

Look at the photograph and if you find more than one or two differences you may need to take a vacation.
