Dear SCAA Community,

Happy holidays all! I wish I could have been with you to celebrate SCAA's 4th annual Christmas Gala but my spirit was certainly with you. I am eternally grateful for all your support and was so happy to hear over 160 supporters came out to celebrate! Every event with an entrance fee (including monthly meetings) is a way of showing your support and helping to fund SCAA's ever increasing animal operations costs.

As we say goodbye to 2008, there are many things SCAA is proud of and grateful for: application for non-profit/charity status in Hong Kong (where we are incorporated), over 575 adoptions to date, providing food, litter and medical care to over 200 cats and dogs at a worthy local project, foster homes and PAW vet treatment for hundreds of foster animals, successful fundraising events, and a great new calendar documenting it all (do you have yours yet?!).

Along with wishing all directors, sponsors, donors, foster parents and volunteers a joyous start to 2009, I would like to mention that as SCAA enters its 5th year in March, we continue to need your support more than ever. Several of SCAA's current directors were at my side since 2005 and when I left in December 2007, they carried on without hesitation. After 4 years of dedication to SCAA while, like most of you, also juggling full-time careers and families, they need your time as much as the animals need your funding. With our increased popularity in the expatriate and local communities over the years comes increased demands for help. Thanks to a growing list of keen volunteers, we're expanding our initiatives, but SCAA definitely needs more people who can commit 6 to 10 hours a week (in sickness and in health, on holidays and weekends) - a dedicated Events Coordinator comes to mind! Is this you? If so, please do contact us.

We are all very proud that SCAA is considered an established institution after only 4 years, but please do not let your community take it for granted that we will always be "there". Like any organization, we will likely struggle for financial and human resources in what may be a difficult 2009. SCAA is the sum of its parts, and we look forward to adding strength in numbers, which is needed just to sustain what we do now.

Wishing you a purrfect 2009 and the continued sustainability of SCAA.

Warmest regards,
Carol Wolfson
Founder SCAA

A Purrfect Year-end Success Story

It is with great pleasure that SCAA updates our supporters and Quasi’s generous donors with some wonderful news - Quasi is adopted.

Quasimodo heals well…

Quasimodo’s surgery to remove an infected, injured eye was a great success (thanks Dr James!) and Quasi recovered nicely. Quasi was clearly more comfortable and happier with his new look - relaxing and cuddling, as these one-eyed Quasi pictures attest.

…and finds a new permanent home!

When a long-time pet owner searched the SCAA Adoption Gallery for a friend for his 6-year-old cat, Mao, he felt Quasi was the right match.

Mao and Quasi were cautiously introduced shortly after Quasi arrived home and settled under the bed. Mao casually made the first move – touching noses. The cats quickly reached a mutual understanding: there is plenty of room at this house for two rescued Tom cats who enjoy lounging around, a lot. After just a couple of days, Quasi and Mao were even expending some energy playing together and Quasi was approaching his new family for some attention and companionship. We couldn’t ask for a better start for Quasi’s new lease on life.

Everyone at SCAA is grateful to donors for contributing towards Quasi’s medical care, foster parents for opening their home to an injured cat, and to Quasi’s adopter for seeing the great pet possibilities in him.

CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS AND HELP SHANGHAI'S ABANDONED ANIMALS ALL IN ONE!

A big thanks again to long-time SCAA supporter Yasmin Velloza who donated an amazing collection to this year's Xmas Gala valued at over RMB 50,000! Her elegant silk, cashmere and organic blend pieces were the highlight of the raffle and a welcomed collection to the winners' winter wardrobe! It's still not too late to pick up a piece or two with Yasmin's special promotion going till the end of January 2009 . And try your luck once again with a 'Spring Festival' lucky draw to win one of Yasmin's gorgeous silk coats!

E-mail for appointment at yasmin@yasminvelloza.com.

Pantry Migic

Thanks to SCAA supporter Pantry Magic, the holiday season has gotten a little less stressful. Even you eleventh-hour kitchen tool shoppers will be able to warm up and chill out with a steaming cup of yummy mulled wine, compliments of the staff. On offer every afternoon until closing until mid February 2009. www.pantry-magic.com

Shangai Pie

Bad luck indeed. Shanghai's most beloved pie maker has recently endured a much ill-timed factory fire, leaving a very limited supply until early 2009. While they're getting their pie factory up and running again, be sure to run out to City Shop or Fei Dan, or click over to the Elders website to grab their remaining yummy bits in stock. And be sure to stay updated via shanghaipie.com. They'll be back before you know it. Jia you! Jia you!

Summergate

The clock may be ticking but it's still not too late to take advantage of Summergate's SCAA Holiday Promotion. Offer ends December 31st.
