Dear SCAA Community,

Welcome back SCAA volunteers, supporters and community! I hope all of you had a fantastic holiday and New Year's. I wish you all the best of luck for 2008!

From the heading up top you will notice that our very successful local project, the Huang Project, has fallen on hard times recently and lost much of his other donor support. SCAA has supported Mr. Hwang by vaccinating and de-sexing the whole population, building new structures and spending thousands each month for cat litter. Mr Huang has done a great job of caring for these rescued cats while adhering to strict SCAA guidelines. This is a great model of how a reformed hoarder can turn into a responsible cat sanctuary with a stable and healthy population. And we have actually been able to start adopting out the healthy cats after careful medical observation. We feel this is a worthy, model project and hope to keep it going with your help. We fervently ask for your donations, which can be collected at any SCAA event or contact us for more details on how you can help!
You can see a history of this project here:

On January 5th and 6th the SPCA (HK) and SSAPA hosted the first ever “China for Animals” Shanghai 2008 Conference. Two invitations were extended to SCAA and Lee Anne and I were happy to attend such a useful and informative event. SPCA (HK) is an incredibly well run and large organization and an inspiration to all the start-up organizations here. They deserve a lot of credit and did a great job sharing their experience and promoting better animal welfare in the mainland. More info below.

We have a fantastic big event in the works for March and other get-togethers so stay tuned. We're always in need of foster parents so please contact Lee-Anne foster@scaashanghai.org if you are able to foster.

We appreciate your input and are constantly trying to make SCAA better and grow for the future. Please drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. This organization is all about animal welfare and saving animals but it's you that makes it possible. We need your support. I hope to see you at our next meeting!

Warmest Regards,

Milton Menefee

Peaches

Cat Stats:
  • Name: Peaches
  • Age: 10 months
  • Rescue: From around Indalo restaurant
  • Funny habit: Laying on her back in the donut bed with all fours up batting anything that comes her way.
  • Status: Adopted

Peaches' Story

Peaches used to live on the street around Indalo restaurant (long time SCAA supporters). The kind management there used to feed her and realized that she was not just an ordinary street cat but a really a friendly cat that belonged in a nice home. They asked us to picked her up and she did really well in foster care with SCAA Director Milton Menefee. SCAA arranged for PAW care (flea and de-worming, vaccination and spey)

Peaches

On her first adoption day, she managed to catch a nice adopter's attention in the first 30 minutes and was adopted right away. She has settled into a new permanent home.  She loves people and sits on laps and greets guests with leg rubs.  She was very fortunate and so are the happy new adopters.

Peaches

Note from Frederic "I would like to thank you a lot for today's adoption, as I can already tell you that we didn't adopt Peaches, she adopted us !! The surprise for my fiancée was really successful! After 1 hour discovering the apartment (looking for a place to hide !), she was always staying close to us, rubbing against our legs, and right now she is on my fiancée's knees, purring already ! She ate, drank, and is already using the "toilet". We are really pleased, because she is exactly what we were looking for."

To learn more about adopting, please contact SCAA Foster Care Director, Lee-Anne Armstrong at foster@scaashanghai.org
