China For Animals Conference

On January 5th and 6th, animal welfare organisations and veterinary doctors from all over China came to Shanghai for the first ever China For Animals Conference. The HK SPCA and SSAPA, did a fantastic job organising this very informative event.

From the SPCA website: 'The objective for “China for Animals Conference, Shanghai 2008” is upon sharing successful experiences of the special administrative region of Hong Kong and overseas with our colleagues in China giving practical methods and gearing the correct animal welfare concepts in order to promote proactive and sustainable animal welfare strategies and facilitate changes.'

Many topics were covered including: animal welfare, rabies and vaccination, common viral and skin diseases in companion animals and disease prevention and control, veterinary ethics, good veterinary practice, the importance of de-sexing, humane euthanasia, shelter design and management, re-homing adoptable rescued animals, trap, neuter and return (TNR), animal welfare laws in China, fund-raising / sustainability / creditability, communication and media, and farm animal welfare.
